Air Quality Consultants in Birmingham and the West Midlands
FreshBreeze Environmental Ltd is an air quality consultancy based at 22-28 George Street, Balsall Heath, Birmingham. We prepare air quality assessments, dust management plans, odour assessments, dispersion modelling and monitoring for architects, developers, planning consultants and property consultants across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.
Do you need an air quality assessment for a Birmingham planning application?
It depends on the scheme and its location. Local planning authorities usually ask for one when a site is within or close to an Air Quality Management Area, when a development will add significant traffic, when new homes or other sensitive uses would be exposed to poor air quality, or when demolition and construction will take place near existing homes, schools or hospitals. A short screening conversation with us will tell you which of these applies to your project, before you commit to a full report.
Who we work with
- Architects: early advice on site layout, building orientation and ventilation strategy, so air quality does not become a late design problem.
- Developers: assessments and mitigation proposals that answer the planning officer’s questions the first time.
- Planning consultants: clear, well-referenced reports that sit comfortably alongside your planning statement.
- Property consultants: due diligence on air quality, dust and odour risks before you buy, sell or redevelop.

Local knowledge across the West Midlands
Birmingham introduced a Clean Air Zone in 2021, and several West Midlands authorities have declared Air Quality Management Areas. Planning officers in the region know these issues well, so reports need to be specific and properly evidenced. We cover Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Sandwell, and we also take on projects elsewhere in the UK.
Who leads your project
Your project is led by Muhammad Rajput, a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with an MSc in Air Pollution Management and Control from the University of Birmingham. Freshbreeze Environmental Ltd provides practical air quality advice for development, planning and operational projects.
How a project works
- Enquiry: tell us the site address, the type of scheme and the planning stage.
- Screening and quote: we confirm what the planning authority is likely to require and send you a clear quote.
- Assessment and report: we carry out the work and prepare a report written for the planning officer.
- Support to determination: we respond to queries from the planning authority and its environmental health team.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an air quality assessment take?
A simple screening assessment can often be completed within days to a couple of weeks. Detailed modelling usually takes several weeks, depending on the data available. We confirm the timescale in your quote.
What is a dust management plan?
A dust management plan sets out how dust from demolition and construction will be assessed and controlled, so that nearby homes, schools and businesses are protected. Planning authorities often make it a condition of consent.
What information do you need to give me a quote?
The site address, a site plan or drawings, the type and size of the development, and the planning stage. If you already have a planning officer’s comments or traffic data, send those too.
Do you only work in Birmingham?
No. We are based in Birmingham and know the West Midlands well, but we prepare assessments for projects across the UK.
